Cubs news: CM Punk led 7th inning stretch singalong during Chicago's loss to Marlins

It has been a busy week for Chicago native and Cubs superfan CM Punk , who threw the first pitch before the team's loss to the Miami Marlins at Wrigley Field after guest starring on R.J. Decker .

He attended the game on Wednesday, Sep. 23, wearing Pete Crow-Armstrong 's jersey. Punk threw a decent pitch, and Clark the Cub embraced him afterward .

Later in the evening, he led the 7th inning stretch "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" singalong, working the crowd by saying, "All right, Cubs fans, I need you to get loud! Let me hear you!"

At the time of the 7th inning stretch, the Cubs had just gone down 3-2 to the Marlins, who scored a run at the top of the 7th to break the 2-2 tie. Unfortunately, Punk couldn't rally the Cubs to victory, as they failed to score in their remaining three innings.

Either way, it looked like he was having a blast. As for the Cubs, they dropped to 87-71 on the season and have lost both of their games to the Marlins in the series. They have a chance at redemption on Thursday, Sep. 24.

His ties to the Windy City have remained an important part of his WWE persona. He has paid homage to the Flag of Chicago on his wrestling shorts over the years.

The "Best in the World" is coming off losing the Undisputed WWE Championship back to Sami Zayn during the Sep. 11 edition of Friday Night SmackDown. A couple of months earlier, on July 6, he beat Zayn to win the title in Chicago, making his surprise return after a two-month hiatus following WrestleMania 42.
