The Minnesota Timberwolves will have to look elsewhere in their bid to fill their open two-way roster spot after Norchad Omier reneged on his agreement with the Timberwolves to sign a two-way contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers instead. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype was the first to report this development .

Omier was with the Los Angeles Clippers last season and suited up in six games, averaging 2.8 minutes in 4.0 minutes of play. The 6-foot-5 power forward spent the vast majority of last season in the G League, splitting time with the Cleveland Charge, the Cavs' affiliate, and San Diego Clippers, the Clippers' affiliate.

Perhaps Omier decided to sign with the Cavs instead since he's more familiar with the team, having suited up in a total of 31 G-League games for the Charge. But Omier did suit up for the Timberwolves in preseason, playing in all six games for the team and averaging 1.8 points in 8.0 minutes per contest.

Backing out of an agreement with an NBA team is almost unprecedented, but turnabout's fair play. In recent days, the Oklahoma City Thunder backed out of a reported agreement with free agent Ochai Agbaji, with the Thunder reportedly wanting to reassess their roster in light of Chet Holmgren's recent injury that will keep him out for months.

The Thunder have since signed Dalen Terry to a two-year contract to fill their open roster spot.

The Timberwolves recently waived Enrique Freeman after he suffered an injury that would keep him out for weeks, opening up a two-way roster spot in the process. Freeman is a 6-foot-9 power forward, while Omier is also listed as a four, so it makes sense that the Timberwolves will be looking for another power forward on the market.

They currently have Rocco Zikarsky and Zyon Pullin as their two other two-way players on the roster.

Considering that the Timberwolves will be without Anthony Edwards for up to two months after he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery, Minnesota will need warm bodies they can rely on in case other injury problems open up playing time for those who are buried in the depth chart.
