Uncertainty continues to hover above Lamar Jackson entering a big divisional matchup versus the Cincinnati Bengals , but the Baltimore Ravens superstar quarterback is at least making progress in his recovery from an ankle injury. How gradual is it, though?
Following back-to-back limited practices, Jackson was on the field again on Friday. He did not do much jogging or running during the portion that was open to the media, however, according to ESPN's Jamison Hensley. Although Jackson's presence is encouraging, his participation obviously does not guarantee an "active" designation for Sunday's face-off with Cincy.
The Ravens have to balance their pursuit of AFC North supremacy with their franchise keystone's long-term health. Jackson himself wields some influence over the decision and can potentially give the green light. He cannot just will himself back to full mobility, though.
Baltimore must decide if it can properly protect the two-time MVP from further injury, otherwise this squad will find itself in survival mode yet again. If he is on the gridiron, fans should be in for a treat.
Jackson and Joe Burrow have contested some memorable battles over the years, and the former usually prevails. The Bengals have a new-look defense, however. They rank tied for sixth in the NFL with 17 sacks (in five games), with huge offseason acquisition Dexter Lawrence accounting for three of them. Baltimore's offensive line better be ready.
But will Lamar Jackson be? The Ravens will ideally update his status by day's end. Tyler Huntley will make his third consecutive start if No. 8 is forced to miss another game.
