Kernel girls tennis wins fifth in a row

Sep. 11—MITCHELL — Mitchell High School girls tennis powered its way to an 8-1 victory on Thursday over Sioux Falls Washington in a dual at Hitchcock Park.

It was Mitchell's fifth dual win in a row, improving to 12-3 in dual contests this season.

In singles play, Mitchell won five of the six matches, led by Mia Larson's 6-0, 6-0 sweep at Flight 2. Elliot Smith was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at Flight 4 and Charlee Cimpl won 6-3, 6-3 at Flight 5 singles. Katie Morgan outlasted Madelyn Dahlmeier at No. 1 singles 6-4, 7-5 for key win and Sydney Love won 6-3, 5-7 and 10-2 at Flight 6 for a tough win.

Mitchell also swept all three doubles matches. Morgan and Ava Prunty were 6-0, 6-2 winners at Flight 1, while Larson and Smith won at Flight 2 by a score of 6-2, 6-3. Cimpl and Taryn Bultje were 3-6, 6-1 and 11-9 winners at Flight 3 doubles.

Mitchell will compete next on Tuesday, Aug. 15 in a triangular at Yankton against the host Gazelles and Sioux Falls Lincoln.
