Mississippi State cancels future road games at Memphis, Southern Miss, Tulane

With the SEC moving to a 9-game conference schedule, its teams are making adjustments to previously scheduled non-conference matchups.

For Mississippi State, that involves removing road games of previously scheduled home-and-homes. The Bulldogs scheduled home-and-homes with Memphis, Southern Miss, and Tulane but recently canceled the road trips for all three series .

Memphis and Mississippi State announced a home-and-home series in June 2020, where the Tigers were slated to host in 2028 and the Bulldogs in 2029. However, the series has been altered to a one-off matchup. Now, Mississippi State hosts Memphis in 2034 in Starkville, with no return trip to Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium.

Memphis won't even get a payout for losing its home game. Per the Jonah Dylan of the Commercial Appeal , the contract included a force majeure provision which allowed the series to be canceled without financial penalty if the SEC expanded to a 9-game conference schedule, which starts this year. Mississippi State replaced the 2028 road trip to Memphis with a home game against Louisiana Tech.

Memphis and Mississippi State last met during a 2021 and 2022 home-and-home series, where the home team won each matchup.

Southern Miss and Mississippi State announced a home-and-home series in February 2023, where the Golden Eagles were slated to host in 2030 and the Bulldogs in 2031. Similarly, the series has been altered to a one-off matchup in Starkville, MS, with kickoff moved up to Sept. 15, 2029. The programs recently held home-and-home series in 2014 and 2015 and again in 2023 and 2025, with Mississippi State capturing all four victories. However, the Golden Eagles are no longer scheduled to host the SEC opponent in the future.

Tulane and Mississippi State originally planned a home-and-home series in 2020 and 2023, but the COVID-19 axed the first leg of the matchup, and the series was moved to 2030 and 2032. Under the previous contract, the Bulldogs would host in Starkville in 2030 and the Green Wave would welcome Mississippi State to New Orleans in 2032. After recent revisions, the series has turned into a lone matchup in Starkville on Sept. 11, 2032. Mississippi State replaced the 2030 matchup with a home game against Troy.

The 2032 contest in Starkville will mark the first meeting between the Bulldogs and Green Wave since 2007.
