Robot Tops Usain Bolt Track Record With Historic 100m Time at World Humanoid Games

Three humanoid robots have officially topped Usain Bolt's world record in the 100-meter race...again.

A robotic sprinter ran the 100 meters in 8.84 seconds on Wednesday at the 2026 World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing, according to the Associated Press .

The feat was accomplished the day after other robots clocked 100-meter times of 8.86 seconds and 9.39 seconds earlier in the Games, per the AP.

Bolt set the human 100-meter world record with a 9.58-second run in 2009 during the World Athletics Championship in Berlin.

The record robot runs were recorded by the Tiangong Ultra model developed by the Beijing Innovation Center of Humanoid Robotics, according to the AP.

The same model of robot won the world's first humanoid half marathon in April 2025 by completing the 13-mile route in two hours and 40 minutes.

Technology had advanced by this April to the point a robot designed by the Chinese smartphone maker Honor beat the human world record by running a half marathon in 50 minutes and 26 seconds.

The World Humanoid Robot Games, which runs through Wednesday in Beijing, also features robots competing in sports like football and table tennis as well as tasks like firefighting.
