No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 8 BYU played one of the day's best college football games on Saturday.

It was a fantastic game with plenty of twists and turns that came down to the final play, but BYU prevailed, 28-24.

Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr tried to throw a touchdown pass as time expired, but couldn't connect with wide receiver Jaden Greathouse. There was definitely some contact on the play, but the officials didn't throw a flag.

BYU made some cool history , winning its first-ever AP top-10 matchup.

The Cougars are now 6-0 overall and sent a message to the college football community that they are for real. They beat a national title-contending team in the Fighting Irish and are looking to not only win the Big 12, but the national championship.

Cougars head coach Kalani Sitake has done a great job with this program over the last 11 seasons, and they're likely to be in the top five of the new AP poll on Saturday. The Cougars are also one of six undefeated FBS teams.

BYU will continue its Big 12 schedule with a road matchup against UCF next Saturday before coming home to play Arizona State on Halloween. A road matchup against Utah looms after that game on Nov. 7.

This was a big win for BYU, but the program will hope that it's just the start of what could be a special season.
