Colts' Taylor gets shot at redemption after Chiefs halted 2025 surge

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor went into last year's meeting with the Kansas City Chiefs on a dominant run.

Through Week 10, Taylor led the NFL in rushing by more than 200 yards while averaging 6.03 yards per carry, via Chiefs.com .

But Kansas City slowed him considerably.

Taylor finished with only 58 rushing yards in the Colts ' 23-20 overtime loss on the road. And he didn't reach 100 rushing yards again for the remainder of the season.

Taylor remains one of Indianapolis' most important offensive pieces and leads the NFL in rushing touchdowns since the beginning of last season.

The Chiefs made stopping Taylor a focal point in this year's Week 2 preview.

Indianapolis will need more from its ground game after opening the 2026 season with a 41-23 loss to the Baltimore Ravens . Keeping Taylor involved could also help the Colts avoid obvious passing situations against a Kansas City defense that generated four sacks and pressured Bo Nix on 51.5% of his dropbacks in Week 1.

Taylor's latest trip to Kansas City may need to end in rushing success to get the Colts back on track.
