Karl celebrates comeback and hopes to be included in Germany squad

Bayern Munich midfielder Lennart Karl celebrated his comeback from injury in the 5-1 win against VfB Stuttgart on Friday evening and now hopes quickly to find his way back to the Germany national team.

"I'm very happy to be back," he said after the Bundesliga opener.

"It was a very, very tough journey. At first, it was more of a mental challenge, and then it became more of a physical one. But the team supported me very well. The staff really helped me get through that tough time. That's definitely why I was able to come back strong."

Karl was included in Germany's World Cup squad by then-coach Julian Nagelsmann, but suffered a hamstring injury during training camp and was ruled him out of the tournament.

After the elimination in the round of 32, Nagelsmann stepped down from his position and former Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp took charge of the team.

Karl said he hasn't spoken with Klopp yet, but that he hopes to be included in the squad the coach will name on September 17 for Nations League matches against the Netherlands, Greece and Serbia.

"I hope to be included. I'm working very hard to be completely fit again. We will see what the coach will do," Karl said.
