Borussia Dortmund’s Niko Kovač hoping for a speedy recovery for Vincent Kompany
Kovac wished Kompany a speedy recovery ahead of Dortmund’s win over Frankfurt
There's been an outpouring of well wishes for Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany after he collapsed last Friday at Säbener Straße following Bayern's first-team training session. The Belgian had just been getting over an infection as well as hip problems that had affected his ability to traverse the touchlines during Bayern's last two matches, but it's still unclear whether the collapse was related to the illness he was recovering from.
Borussia Dortmund manager Niko Kovač, who previously managed and played for Bayern, offered his own well wishes for his rival manager ahead of Dortmund's 1-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt that provisionally took them to the top of the Bundesliga table.
"Like all football fans, I wish him all the best. I hope he makes a speedy recovery and returns to the pitch as soon as possible. The most important thing at this stage is to give him some calm and quiet, because he needs time. We all know how demanding a coach's job is, so I genuinely wish him all the very best. I hope we'll be able to speak again at some point next week," the Croatian manager gracefully said (via @iMiaSanMia ).
Kovač is no stranger to the constant limelight and microscope Kompany is under as Bayern manager, and some reports have suggested that late nights, long days, and a relentless workload might have contributed to Kompany collapsing on Friday in addition to the illness he had been getting over. As the Croatian alluded to, Kompany will now be getting some proper rest as he recovers from what is always a concerning medical event, and he could wind up missing out on the season's second installment of der Klassiker against Dortmund at the end of the month. That match will likely have big implications in the title race for the first time in quite a few seasons with the way things have gone so far.
