‘Going to get a cardiac test’: Seahawks owner Vinod Khosla reacts to wild Patriots comeback

Seattle Seahawks owner Vinod Khosla admitted he may need a cardiac test after watching his team produce a dramatic comeback against the New England Patriots in their season opener.

The Seahawks trailed for most of the game before scoring 10 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to complete a 13-10 victory over the Patriots in a rematch of last season's Super Bowl.

Khosla, whose family completed a record-breaking $9.612 billion purchase of the Seahawks last week, was watching on as Seattle recovered from a difficult start to begin the defence of its championship.

The Seahawks owner took to X after the final whistle to share his reaction to a game that appeared to be slipping away from Seattle for much of the night.

Khosla wrote: "I'm going to get a cardiac test before the next Seahawks game. The team and 12s won it tonight. Hard to imagine a better roller coaster."

It was certainly a stressful opening game for the new chairman, with Seattle failing to score in the first half and trailing 10-3 heading into the fourth quarter.

Drew Lock had taken over at quarterback after Sam Darnold suffered a hip injury on the opening drive. Lock then found Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a 45-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter before Jason Myers ' field goal completed the comeback.

Smith-Njigba finished with eight receptions for 122 yards and a touchdown, while Lock completed 16 of 22 passes for 187 yards and a score.

The Seahawks defence also played a major role in the turnaround, keeping New England scoreless in the final quarter after Mike Vrabel's side had controlled much of the contest.

Meanwhile, Seattle will be hoping Darnold's injury is not serious after coach Mike Macdonald provided a positive early update following the game.

Macdonald said: "At this point, we're able to rule out a fracture. There are more tests to be done. That's why I'm saying that it's positive [news]. We're still working on that but right now, I think fracture is out, which is great news."

For Khosla, however, the immediate concern was simply getting through a wild first game with a victory. Seattle now has momentum heading into the rest of the season, while the Patriots will have to respond after letting a 10-point advantage slip away.
