Red Bull pull off crazy F1 stunt as Sebastian Vettel’s title-winning car takes to Madrid train tracks ahead of Spanish Grand Prix

Red Bull Racing have once again pushed the limits with a wild Formula One stunt. The team has put Sebastian Vettel’s championship-winning RB8 car on Madrid’s train tracks ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix.The stunning project gave Madrid an early taste of F1 action. The car was converted into a bespoke train and taken onto the city’s Metro tracks. Former F1 driver Patrick Friesacher was behind the wheel for the unusual run.Red Bull Racing turn Sebastian Vettel’s RB8 into a train for unique stunt in Madrid Red Bull Racing teamed up with the Canillejas workshop to create one of the most unusual F1 demonstrations ever seen. The team took Sebastian Vettel’s RB8, the car that helped the German win the 2012 world championship, and gave it a major makeover.Engineers and mechanics fitted the F1 car with specially designed metal wheels. Each wheel weighed 29.8kg. That is around twice the weight of a standard Formula One wheel.The work was completed in record time. The finished car was then ready to run on Madrid’s Metro railway tracks. Former F1 driver Patrick Friesacher was chosen to drive the unique machine.The Austrian took the converted F1 car through parts of Madrid’s Metro network. The stunt included runs past Estadio Metropolitano station and the Sacedal and Chamartín depots.It marked a first-of-its-kind experience for the Red Bull Heritage team. Friesacher, who raced for Minardi in Formula One in 2005, admitted that the experience was unlike anything he had done before.“It was an unbelievable experience. I’ve been lucky enough to experience a lot with our Heritage team, but driving an F1 car on railway tracks was surreal. It’s very cool to add Metro driver to the resume”, he said in the viral video.The spectacular stunt comes ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix at the new Madring circuit.The event will be a major moment for Madrid. F1 is returning to the Spanish capital for the first time in 45 years. The last F1 race in Madrid took place in 1981. It was held at the 2.06-mile Jarama circuit.Ferrari driver Gilles Villeneuve won that race. Jacques Laffite finished second, while McLaren’s John Watson completed the podium.Nigel Mansell also competed and finished sixth. Keke Rosberg finished 12th, while Nelson Piquet and Alain Prost both failed to finish.Red Bull will now hope its fortunes change when F1 arrives in Madrid.Max Verstappen finished on the podium at last weekend’s Italian Grand Prix. However, the four-time world champion is still searching for his first victory of the 2026 season.Mercedes have dominated much of the campaign. Kimi Antonelli currently leads the driver’s championship.The Spanish Grand Prix 2026 will therefore be another major test for Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing as they look to fight back.
