Bears' Ben Johnson tries to calm fears with post-Caleb Williams injury comments

It was certainly a scary sight to see Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams go down during the team's Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings . The injury looked super rough at the time, and while it couldn't have been comfortable, at least it's just a hamstring injury, so Williams is expected to be back with the team before too long.

But Williams is still expected to miss a few games, and he's not expected to play against the Philadelphia Eagles on "Monday Night Football." Backup quarterback Tyson Bagent is also out in concussion protocol and questionable for the Week 3 matchup.

So, that leaves them with their third-stringer, the 38-year-old Case Keenum . Should Bears fans be freaking out? Not at all.

Ben Johnson has high praise for Case Keenum

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, head coach Ben Johnson said the kind of stuff that could calm the fears of Bears fans watching. He spoke highly of Keenum.

"He's been a baller from, I think, the day that he was born, from what I can tell," Johnson told reporters, per Fox 32 Chicago . "His teammates gravitate to him. I think that's a good starting point for a quarterback."

He also talked about his age, adding, "Of course, he's up there in years a little bit, but that experience has really paid off for him. He sees the game the same way that we do. I think he accelerates through his progressions because he's seen so many things over the course of his time. He's been in so many different offenses."

Finally, Johnson said that the veteran quarterback "might be a step slower than he was when he first entered the league, and yet his mind's going so fast, it helps catch him on up. He's playing as good a football as he probably has his whole career."

So, Bears fans can feel a touch better about this strange situation. It's not unusual for a first- and second-string quarterback to be out at once, but Johnson says they're in good hands.
