The New York Yankees are out of the 2026 postseason. Though New York's season did not end without controversy , it has ended nonetheless. The Yankees were swept in the ALDS by the Tampa Bay Rays, who are off to the ALCS.
It was a whirlwind for New York this postseason. The Yankees dominated the Boston Red Sox in the AL Wild Card round. It didn't take much to brush aside their bitter rivals. The ALDS was a much different story, though. And the realization is setting in for manager Aaron Boone .
"The ending's terrible…it's a broken clubhouse…we just didn't hit enough to score enough and they did," Boone said, via Newsday Sports reporter Erik Boland.

The Yankees thought they had tied the game in the bottom of the sixth. Anthony Volpe swatted a ball that appeared to be a home run. However, it was later ruled an RBI double due to fan interference. This kept the Yankees down by a run.
The Rays would take this and run with it. Tampa was unable to build upon its lead, but it didn't need to. They held the Yankees scoreless for the remainder of the game and are off to the ALCS as a result.
New York certainly has a lot to assess this winter. Another unfortunate October failure is going to raise important questions in the Bronx. Boone's future in the dugout will certainly be a topic of discussion, as well. How the Yankees proceed this winter will be quite interesting to see.
