Ex-Bellator fighter suspended 9 months after testing positive for cocaine metabolites

Ex-Bellator fighter Alejandra Lara has been suspended nine months and also fined by the Nevada Athletic Commission after testing positive for a banned substance following her loss in Tuff-N-Uff back in April.

On Wednesday, Deputy Attorney General Mike Detmer presented an adjudication agreement in place after Lara tested positive for benzoylecgonine, which is a metabolite of a "prohibited stimulant." Benzoylecgonine is actually the primary metabolite of cocaine, which is obviously banned at all times for athletes competing in combat sports.

As a result, Lara was handed a nine-month suspension, which runs through Jan. 24, 2027 along with a $412.50 fine, $250.60 in prosecution fees, and she must undergo additional drug testing if she returns to get licensed to fight in Nevada again in the future.

Lara was a very active fighter under the Bellator brand with fights against Illima-Lei Macfarlane, Juliana Velasquez, Kana Watanabe, DeAnna Bennett and many more. She eventually left Bellator, and she's continued competing on the regional scene.

Her most recent fight was a loss to Jaeleen Robledo in Tuff-N-Uff, which is where Lara produced the positive drug test that ended with her facing a nine-month suspension.
