According to a source, the Patriots have traded for running back Corey Kiner in a deal with the Arizona Cardinals for a 2028 seventh-round draft pick.
This move signals the Patriots didn't love how the competition for their No. 3 running back unfolded. Kiner played in four games last season, rushing for 58 yards on 12 carries. He also caught two passes for 15 yards and returned one kickoff for 22 yards.
Lan Larison and Hassan Haskins had been battling for the No. 3 running back job.
Now, it could become Kiner's job. This preseason, Kiner ran for 180 yards with two touchdowns in three games. The 24-year-old joined Arizona last season as an undrafted free agent. He ran for 1,153 yards with four touchdowns for Cincinnati in 2024.
Before landing with the Cardinals, Kiner signed with San Francisco but was waived after suffering an ankle injury. He signed with the Minnesota Vikings practice squad and then signed with the Cardinals active roster in December.
This move also means the Patriots must cut another player.
