Jets news: Connor Hellebuyck trade rumors brushed aside by Winnipeg captain

The Winnipeg Jets are working through the Connor Hellebuyck trade saga before training camp. Hellebuyck went public with his trade request last month. This followed months of rumor and speculation about the former Hart Trophy winner's future in Manitoba.

The Jets have yet to trade their superstar goaltender. For now, he remains with Winnipeg and will open the season as their primary goaltender. Before training camp, Jets captain Adam Lowry was asked about the ongoing situation.

"The situation is going to resolve itself one way or the other, and I think from our perspective we've got to focus on getting ourselves ready for camp, getting the team ready and things like that. And as long as he's a member of the Jets, we'll treat that situation as such. Until that time, I don't think it's worth our time in the locker room speculating what's going to happen. We've got to use the guys that are here and do our best to have a rebound year," Lowry said, via NHL.com.

Lowry and the Jets did not have a fantastic 2025-26 campaign. A year removed from winning the President's Trophy, Winnipeg missed the playoffs altogether in 2026. They finished eight points out of the final Wild Card spot in the West.

Hellebuyck had a bit of a shaky season as he struggled with an injury. The Jets star played to an .895 save percentage a year removed from being named league MVP. Hellebuyck had never recorded a regular-season save percentage lower than .900 before this past season.

The Jets begin the 2026-27 season on October 2 against the Boston Bruins . Only time will tell if Hellebuyck is manning the crease for Winnipeg that night.
