Late score boosts Mount Vernon over East Newton

GRANBY, MO – A second-half field goal from Mount Vernon proved to be the difference in a clash against East Newton, as the visitors took the contest 10-8.

Mount Vernon entered the second half up 7-0, but a twist and turn of events, spanning a turnover-on-downs, a long run, and a fumble recovery, set up the Patriots to take an 8-7 lead off a Carson Rinehart.

The heroics were all for not for the hosts, as the late score granted the Mountaineers with its third win over the season, boosting the program back to a .500 record on the campaign.

Mount Vernon returns to action next week with a visit to Lamar, while East Newton will visit the Nevada Tigers.
