Caitlin Clark makes statement after breaking Team USA FIBA World Cup record

Caitlin Clark didn't let her record-breaking performance distract from the bigger goal at the FIBA World Cup.

Caitlin Clark delivered a historic performance in her FIBA Women's World Cup debut, leading Team USA to a 94–61 win over China. Coming off the bench, she posted 14 points, 3 rebounds, and a game-high 11 assists with zero turnovers.

Her 11 dimes set a new USA record for the most assists in a World Cup debut, surpassing Alyssa Thomas's previous mark of nine. She also became the first American player to notch a points-assists double-double in a World Cup game since 1994, while setting a USA record for the most assists without a turnover in tournament history.

Speaking in the FIBA postgame press conference, Caitlin Clark credited her teammates for allowing her to even get 11 assists in the first place.

She said: "You know, obviously playing around so many talented players. Obviously our guards are incredible, and our post players too. But anybody I pass the ball to it feels like they're never going to miss a shot. So that's one of my goals when I come into the game, facilitate, play fast, set up my teammates, get into the paint, get some penetration. Especially with their zone, that was one of my focus points."

It speaks volumes of the person that Caitlin Clark is to divert the attention onto her teammates after breaking a couple of records on her FIBA World Cup debut.
