Newcastle Expected to Sell as Five First-Team Players Face Uncertainty: Report

Newcastle United's incoming transfer business remains the priority before Tuesday's deadline, but the final days of the window are also expected to bring movement in the opposite direction.

The arrival of Nico Gonzalez from Man City has left Matthias Jaissle with 21 senior outfield players, and that number could increase further if Newcastle lands another one or two attacking targets, as is the club's preference.

According to The Athletic's Chris Waugh , that makes at least some departures likely before the window closes.

"In all likelihood, yes," Waugh reported when addressing whether Newcastle will sanction exits before Tuesday night.

Several senior players have uncertain situations, although Joe Willock increasingly looks likely to remain despite sustained interest from Besiktas. Jacob Murphy has also attracted interest but is considered an important dressing-room leader.

Nick Pope remains available after falling to third choice in Newcastle's revamped goalkeeping hierarchy, but Waugh reported that the 34-year-old could ultimately stay unless a late opportunity — most likely a loan — emerges.

The most intriguing situation surrounds Nick Woltemade. Jaissle said Wednesday that he "expects" the German forward to remain but immediately left the door open to circumstances changing.

"We're talking today (but) football is quite complex and things can change from one day to the other," Jaissle said.

Newcastle's immediate shortage at striker complicates matters after William Osula suffered a foot injury that Waugh expects to sideline him for approximately two weeks. However, signing another attacker or two could facilitate Woltemade's departure.

"A loan appears most likely in that eventuality, given Newcastle's UEFA financial position would be negatively affected should they accept a substantial loss on their £64 million club-record signing of this week last August," Waugh reported.

Newcastle is also expected to sanction several youth loans, as it's been the case during the whole PIF regime. Among those on their (likely) way out are Leo Shahar, Sean Neave, Park Seung-soo, Rory Finneran and Miodrag Pivas, all of whom could temporarily depart Tyneside, while Trevan Sanusi could also leave permanently, per Waugh.
