Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl said he doesn't think the people in the club "really understand what we've achieved this week" as the Bavarians overcame the collapse of coach Vincent Kompany and the additional absence of key players with a 3-1 triumph at Freiburg on Sunday.

"I don't think we really understand what we've achieved this week with all the hurdles we've had to overcome. What the team and we as a group have done with the coaching staff is extraordinary," Eberl said.

"The win means three points, but it was a bigger win than just three points. Obviously we've got problems at the moment, but we have our squad and are really happy."

Kompany collapsed while watching a training session of Bayern's reserve team. He had been suffering from a virus in previous days but the reason for the collapse is not known.

Other Bayern absentees in Freiburg apart from Kompany were Joshua Kimmich due to a family bereavement as well as Manuel Neuer, Jamal Musiala, Aleksandar Pavlović, Luis Díaz and Kim Minjae for injury reasons.

"It was clear to everyone that this game marked the end of a very, very difficult week, both physically and mentally," goalkeeper Jonas Urbig said.

Urbig deputized once again for Neuer and made a crucial save at the end of the game when Bayern were leading 2-1 to deny Freiburg the equalizer.

With the three points, Bayern moved back into first place on goal difference over Borussia Dortmund ahead of the two sides' table-topper showdown on Saturday in Munich.

"We have a good cohesion, everyone supports everyone, no matter how difficult the situation is and what each individual is going through. We stand together, not only this week, but especially this week," Urbig said.

There were some good news for Bayern on Monday as defender Kim and midfielder Pavlović trained individually with the ball. The players who featured in the win against Freiburg, meanwhile, completed a recovery session.

Bayern will hope for more good news later as star striker Harry Kane is among the favourites to win the Ballon D'Or award. Eberl will miss the ceremony and won't travel to London because of a cold.
