Austin FC transfer Jayden Nelson to Bolton Wanderers

Austin FC have transferred forward Jayden Nelson to English Championship side Bolton Wanderers, the club announced Wednesday.

The 23-year-old Canadian international departs for up to $2.325 million ($1.1m guaranteed, $1.225m conditional) and a sell-on fee.

Nelson recorded 2g/1a in 13 MLS appearances during his sole season with Austin. He was acquired last December from Vancouver Whitecaps FC .

A Toronto FC homegrown, Nelson has produced 5g/10a in 81 regular-season games spanning five different MLS seasons. He's also played in Europe for Rosenborg BK (Norway) and SSV Ulm 1846 (Germany).

"Jayden expressed a desire to make a move to Europe at this stage of his career, and his transfer to Bolton is a great outcome for both clubs as well as for Jayden," said Austin interim head coach Davy Arnaud .

"We wish him nothing but the best for his time in England and our leadership group felt that accepting this offer continues our efforts to strengthen the club's position as we look to the future."

Internationally, Nelson has scored three goals in 16 caps for Canada . He featured at the 2026 FIFA World Cup during his country's historic run to the Round of 16.

Austin are 14th in the Western Conference (21 points) and have made the Leagues Cup quarterfinals. Longtime Philadelphia Union head coach Jim Curtin is set to take over for the 2027 season.
