Rams owner Stan Kroenke agrees to buy the Angels; record $4 billion valuation

Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke has reached an agreement to buy the Angels, ending the tenure of longtime owner Arte Moreno.

The deal was made through Kroenke Sports and Entertainment (KSE), Kroenke's holding company.

The Angels were sold for a valuation of $4 billion, sources told ESPN's Buster Olney, beating the previous MLB record for a sale of $3.9 billion set by the Padres' new owner earlier this year.

"The Angels are a storied franchise anchored in a great market. We look forward to an exciting future with the Angels organization" Kroenke said in a press releasing announcing the deal.

The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027, and needs to be approved by Major League Baseball. Details about the sale and the terms were not immediately available.

KSE now owns a team in all four of the major North American sports: The NFL's Rams, NBA's Nuggets, NHL's Avalanche and now the Angels. Kroenke also owns Arsenal of the English Premier League. The Rams, Nuggets, Avalanche and Arsenal have all won a championship in their sport over the last decade.

"The Moreno Family has been honored to steward the Angels for 23 years and we believe with KSE's experience and success they are the best next owner for the franchise," Moreno said in a statement. "The Angels Organization looks forward to continuing its commitment to the fans, our employees, the players and our business partners."

The Angels have struggled through much of Moreno's tenure as owner since he acquired the team in 2003 and have not had a postseason appearance since 2014. Fans have been calling for Moreno to sell the Angels.

"I started crying. I'm not gonna lie. I got a little teary eyed. I mean there's been so much leading up to this moment, and we put in a lot of work," said Angels fan Jonny Gonzalez, who created an Instagram page named Angels Boycott and was part of fan protests this season.

"The fans have put in a lot of the work and the atmosphere this year at the stadium has been different," Gonzalez said. "The crowd, the fans have been different this year as well and we're just happy that it finally paid off."

Other fans who spoke with Eyewitness News say they are not only thrilled by the sale but by who made the purchase.

Fans say they believe Kroenke's record speaks for itself and are encouraged by the success of the other franchises he owns.
