Former elite safety commit could visit Florida State this weekend

2027 four-star safety Mekhi Williams was a longtime commit for Florida State . However, he decided to flip his pledge to the Wisconsin Badgers early this summer. That hasn't stopped the communication between him and the Seminoles.

"Well, as of right now, my recruitment's shut down, but I'm still gonna keep them right now inside the loop because they're still a big part — they were a big part for me and my recruitment and everything. I just don't want to close that door or break anything," Williams said in June .

That was after the 6-foot-2.5, 160-pounder attended a camp in Tallahassee. He also mentioned then that a possible visit during the season could happen. According to Zach Blostein of 247Sports , that might take place this weekend when FSU plays the New Mexico State Aggies.

A source told 247Sports on Friday morning that there is a 50-50 chance that Top247 Wisconsin safety commit Mekhi Williams, a former Florida State commit, makes it to Saturday's game. If he makes it in, it'll mark the first time he has visited FSU since flipping from the Seminoles over the summer.

Williams has stated that he's completely locked in with Wisconsin. That may be the case, but the more Florida State stays in the picture, the stronger the possibility is for a possible flip back, especially if they have a successful season.

FSU has four-star Ta'Shawn Poole and three-star ball hawk Jemari Foreman at the safety spot committed in the 2027 cycle. That's an excellent haul in itself at the position, but if they could get Williams back, that would significantly boost what they're bringing in next year.

Williams is the No. 219 prospect nationally and the No. 18 safety. He's also the No. 25 recruit in the state of Florida.
