Texas high school football returned last week with some thrilling games.

Week 2 of the season in the Lone Star State shows no signs of the excitement slowing down, as several big matchups dominate the slate of games from Thursday to Saturday.

That includes Class 6A teams North Crowley and Southlake Carroll squaring off for the first time since 2021. Both teams are coming off impressive Week 1 wins, though both of them did it in very different styles.

The Panthers earned a dominant shutout win, while the Dragons needed to mount a comeback to pull off their victory.

Southlake Carroll football: What to know

Quarterback Hudson Tomcheck and wide receiver Brody Knowles helped guide Southlake Carroll from a 27-0 deficit to a 34-33 season-opening victory.

Tomcheck completed 19 of 24 passes for 322 yards with two touchdowns, while also adding two rushing scores for Southlake Carroll. Knowles had seven catches for 180 yards and two touchdowns

In the last matchup between these two programs, Southlake Carroll earned a 42-20 win over North Crowley in the Class 6A Bi-District Playoff Round on Nov. 12, 2021.

North Crowley limited Aledo to negative-10 rushing yards on 40 carries in its dominant 26-0 win to open the 2026 season last weekend. That marked the first time Aledo was shut out since 2003.

Sophomore Braylen Cunningham had a 65-yard pick-six in the dominant defensive display for North Crowley.

Senior Jacob Torres returned to the starting QB position last week in the season opener after missing the 2025 season because he was deemed ineligible. He finished with 189 yards and three touchdowns in his return.
