Boston Celtics’ Neemias Queta Opens Up on Fighting for Minutes With Mitchell Robinson

The Boston Celtics added Mitchell Robinson to their ranks to beef up their frontcourt depth this offseason, and Neemias Queta recently weighed in on how he'll mesh with the former No. 36 pick this upcoming season.

After establishing himself as the Boston Celtics ' starting center this past season, Queta signed a four-year, $56 million contract extension. But with Robinson's arrival, it remains to be seen how he'll keep his starting job and minutes.

"I'm not too worried about that. That's a Joe (Mazzulla) to figure out," Queta told Celtics on CLNS. "I'm out there just welcoming my new teammate with open arms. Mitchell's going to be a great addition for us. I'm extremely happy I don't have to go against him anymore because he used to get all these rebounds."

"It's going to be good to have him on our side, being able to have a player that's so accomplished — being able to guard multiple positions. One of the best rebounders the league has ever seen. So, nothing but welcome with open arms for him. And I'm excited to be his teammate," he added.

In the same interview, Neemias Queta said he has spent the summer sharpening his game on both ends of the floor, which has been evident while playing for Portugal in the FIBA World Cup qualifiers .

"I've been working on different facets of the game, being more versatile. Offensively, being more complete, whether it's making quick decisions with the ball or there's a pass, being able to go and get my own shot, and defensively; being able to be in the right spots earlier," Queta said.

"And communicate a little bit more. The same old stuff; the space on the floor, as well. Being able to shoot. It's just been a good offseason to work, and I've been working on pretty much everything," he added.

The 27-year-old center is coming off a career year in 2025-26, averaging 10.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.3 blocks on 65.3 percent shooting from the field across 76 regular-season appearances for the Boston Celtics.
