A little over two weeks ago, Mike Locksley stood on the Maryland Terrapins' sidelines as their head football coach.

On Saturday, he sat in the Big Ten Network studio watching them snap a 13-game Big Ten losing streak against the Purdue Boilermakers.

The Terps held on to defeat the Boilermakers 34-29 in West Lafayette, Indiana, and afterward interim head coach Aazaar Abdul-Rahim received a Gatorade bath and was carried off the field, creating a heartwarming scene.

That scene got a little awkward when BTN left the game and returned to its studio show, where Locksley, fired Oct. 21 after eight seasons , was asked to comment on the victory and celebration. The former coach was graceful, praising the team and Aazaar, and noting that he'd picked them to win the game beforehand.

"Congrats to Coach Aazaar and the Maryland Terrapin football team. It was a complimentary game," he said. "When you look in the first half, the way the defense did a great job of holding them to field goals, and then the offense comes out, four TDs in four straight drives to blow the game open and then win it at the end in a close game at the end."

Fellow BTN analyst Gerry DiNardo seemed to understand the uncomfortable nature of the moment, and took a moment to point out that quarterback Malik Washington, who passed for 253 yards and was responsible for four touchdowns, was Locksley's recruit.

"Malik Washington's not at Maryland if it wasn't for you," said DiNardo, patting his fellow analyst's arm.
