Junior tight end Ty Kennedy is emerging as yet another playmaker for the Caravan. He hauled in four catches for 66 yards and two touchdowns Friday night as host Mount Carmel pulled away late for a 56-26 Catholic League Blue win over Marist in Chicago.

Brady Cloherty completed 18 of 33 passes for 295 yards and five TDs for the Caravan (4-0, 1-0), which scored 28 points over the final eight minutes after the RedHawks pulled within 28-20.

Homewood-Flossmoor's Vito Pickard definitely made his point for host H-F, coming through with five tackles and scoring a touchdown on a fumble return in a 35-13 SouthWest Suburban Conference win over the Eagles.

Senior quarterback Rahsaan Coleman connected on a 64-yard TD pass to junior receiver John Gadson to spark the Vikings (3-1, 1-1), who bounced back from a 38-7 loss to Lincoln-Way East.

Lockport's Griffin Russell threw for 221 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another TD in a 38-15 SouthWest Suburban Conference victory over previously undefeated Lincoln-Way West.

Russell threw TD passes to Andrew Maloney for 30 yards, Donavan Gray for 32 yards and Jaxson Little for 10 yards to lead the Porters (1-3, 1-1), Russell set up the TD to Little with a 41-yard connection, also to Little. Prince Nartey added a 54-yard TD run.

Junior running back Aiden Brunner scored a pair of touchdowns in the second half — including the game-winner with 1.8 seconds left — as Jacobs erased a 17-point deficit in earning a 31-27 Fox Valley Conference win at Burlington Central.

Brunner finished with 38 yards on 11 carries for Jacobs (4-0, 4-0), including TDs of 1 and 8 yards. Austin Stennett led the comeback by completing 19 of 31 passes for 263 yards with a 74-yard TD to Owen Crouch, who ended with five catches for 111 yards. Chris Williams added seven catches for 59 yards and scored an 8-yard TD on a reverse. Jordan Hudson had five catches for 75 yards.

Naperville North 21, Naperville Central 14

The 5-foot-9, 170-pound Jayke Collins had his greatest game yet Friday night. He rushed 25 times for 136 yards and three touchdowns, all career highs, to lift the Huskies to a 21-14 victory over rival Naperville Central in a DuPage Valley Conference opener at North Central College.

According to Naperville North athletic director Jon Pereiro, a capacity crowd of 6,000 showed up at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. They were treated to a gritty performance by Collins, who dazzled in his first crosstown game as the Huskies (3-1, 1-0) earned their third straight win.

Zion-Benton's Kevin James knows defenses are going to try to stop teammate Jamere French, an Ohio recruit who is one of the best running backs in the area.

James suspects opponents don't believe the Zee-Bees can win another way.

Zion-Benton did exactly that during a North Suburban Conference game against visiting Stevenson on Thursday night. While French ran for 297 yards and four touchdowns on 38 carries, James caught two touchdown passes from quarterback Marquan Gordon in the unbeaten Zee-Bees' 42-23 win.

A game that featured very few punts was crying out for someone to make a defensive impact, and Prospect senior safety Caden Moran filled that void.

Moran made three interceptions on Thursday — two in the end zone that thwarted Fremd drives and then one that set up the touchdown that put the Knights up by two scores.

Indeed, Moran and Prospect made a statement by beating Fremd 35-21 in a Mid-Suburban League crossover between two undefeated teams.

Montini quarterback Israel Abrams passed for 412 yards and four TDs, including the go-ahead 33-yard pass to Damacio Ortegon with 34 seconds left, and also ran for three TDs.

It was big play after big play, and the Broncos (3-1), who are No. 11 in the Chicago Tribune's rankings, needed every one of them to hold off No. 21 Nazareth (1-3) as quarterback JJ Chapman threw for 301 passing yards and three scores.
