Nuggets reportedly interested in signing $2M ex-Mavericks crafty guard to pair with Nikola Jokic

The Charlotte Hornets have made several moves this summer, including trading former franchise star LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves . This marked the beginning of a new era in Charlotte, as the team looks to give its younger talent more responsibility.

"Among our latest items, Atlanta and Charlotte have held trade talks surrounding Buddy Hield for Dorian Finney-Smith , sources say. It remains unclear whether an agreement will be struck before training camps open," Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer posted.

This was a trade that could have worked for both sides, as it would have allowed Charlotte to add another shooter to its roster. On Tuesday, the deal between the two teams became official.

"The Atlanta Hawks are trading Buddy Hield, Ryan Nembhard and cash considerations to the Charlotte Hornets for Dorian Finney-Smith, the team announced on Tuesday. The Hornets are expected to waive Nembhard as part of the trade, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania," ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk wrote.

With Nembhard likely to be waived by the Hornets, he could have some options if he clears waivers. The Denver Nuggets are reportedly one team highly interested in giving him a contract.

"The Nuggets, meanwhile, remain prominent among various teams with two-way deal interest in Ryan Nembhard, league sources say. Nembhard has not yet been officially waived by Charlotte but is expected to focus on teams with a backup point guard need if he indeed clears waivers," The Stein Line's Marc Stein posted.

At the very least, Nembhard would have the opportunity to learn from players such as Nikola Jokic and, especially, guard Jamal Murray . Nembhard is a crafty guard who is simply looking for the right fit to showcase his abilities.

He is currently on a $2 million contract , and Denver is looking to make a deep postseason run. While signing Nembhard wouldn't be a major addition, it could still pay dividends for the Nuggets during the regular season.
