The first domino of the offseason for the Philadelphia 76ers was the big trade acquisition of Jaylen Brown from the rival Boston Celtics . The Sixers somehow pulled off a deal with the Cs to acquire Brown and that set up the big addition of LeBron James .

Brown brings a championship pedigree to Philadelphia as he won finals MVP for Boston's title team in 2024 and will be looking to bring his elite play to the Sixers. He averaged 28.7 points in a brilliant 2025-26 season and will be part of a big offensive game plan for a Philadelphia team looking to finally get over the hump in the Eastern Conference.

Bob Myers, President of Sports for HBSE and part of Philadelphia's front office, explained how the Sixers were able to land Brown while on an episode of "Cousins with Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady":

Jaylen Brown was not like we lost the Knicks and we're going to go get Jaylen Brown. Like, that's not what happened. That's not what happened. Then you start hearing there was a possibility, and the job then became is this a real thing with Jaylen Brown? Is it a real thing? I think Brad Stevens is one of the most straight shooters in the league. So, when you work in the NBA as an executive, you ultimately usually have at least one or two--I don't want to say transactions--with every other GM. So, you know, if I call Trace, 'Hey, you want to make a deal?' He might be like, 'Yeah, yeah, yeah.' And then he doesn't I mean, it's like--I know you're not this way--but you have to understand like he's honest or he might tell me what I want to hear or he might lie to me. This dude just might lie. He lied to me two years ago. He's going to lie to me again. That's not Brad Stevens. So, when Brad Stevens responded with, 'What are you offering?' Then you knew that there was a shot. So, then it becomes 50 conversations towards one, both organizations did a great job not leaking that, which is impossible. It's literally impossible, and by the way, having been in a job where we had high-profile players in Golden State , Brad ultimately and that organization are very sensitive to rumors around a guy like Jaylen Brown. So, I think they appreciated like 'Be quiet. Don't talk about this.' Which we didn't and they didn't. And so, it ended up just day-by-day getting legs.

The Sixers will be looking for Brown to give the Sixers that elite two-way ability and help Philadelphia in big moments, as he did with the Celtics during his 10 years in the league. It's a huge moment for the Sixers, which then set up the James signing. It was a home run for Myers and Co. in the City of Brotherly Love.
