New York Giants, Jets start season 1-0 for first time since 2009

The New York Giants and New York Jets accomplished a feat in Week 1 that had not been done since 2009.

Both teams won their season openers for the first time in 17 years. The Giants opened with a 28-20 victory over the Dallas Cowboys , while the Jets earned a 23-10 win over the Tennessee Titans .

For the Giants, quarterback Jaxson Dart threw three touchdown passes. Isaiah Likely had an eventful debut, leading all Giants receivers with 78 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Francis Mauigoa did not allow a sack or pressure, and Deonte Banks made a statement with commendable coverage against Cowboys star CeeDee Lamb , recording two passes defensed.

The Jets received a strong performance from quarterback Geno Smith in his return to New York .

The last time both teams won their openers was in 2009, when the Giants defeated Washington 23-17, and the Jets beat Houston 24-7.
