Heat reportedly interested in signing $38M energetic 11-year journeyman to backup Davion Mitchell

The Miami Heat still have a big roster decision to make with their final spot. There had been some discussion about Ben Simmons potentially joining the team, but he ultimately signed with the Sacramento Kings .

"A team in win-now mode has to draw a valuation line between players who can be developed/reclaimed and those needed to be able to contribute in the moment, without questions of whether they are healthy enough or still skilled enough. The Kings make all the sense for Ben Simmons and he makes all the sense for them. There is no pressure to produce in Sacramento," Sun Sentinel's Ira Winderman wrote.

There was also some buzz surrounding Gabe Vincent , but that does not appear likely to come to fruition either.

"I do think the former Heat guard Gabe Vincent has some fans in this building and some fans on that roster who would love for him to be back into the fold, right now it's looking like Miami is not a outcome for Gabe Vincent. But I do think Miami's roster isn't exactly done and the guard position will be something they look at moving forward," Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer said.

There have been several reports about other options being on the table. According to Heavy.com's Sean Deveney, Miami has some interest in veteran point guard Cam Payne.

"The Heat have weighed the likes of veteran backups Gabe Vincent and Cam Payne, but would prefer to find someone with a better upside. They do need a placeholder for that spot, though," Deveney wrote.

Payne has been a journeyman throughout his career, playing for seven teams during his time in the NBA. The veteran guard could be a great mentor for Davion Mitchell , who has taken a big step forward this offseason.

Payne has made $38 million throughout his career. He plays with a motor that simply never seems to turn off, which could make him an intriguing option for the Heat off the bench. Adding Payne would give Miami another experienced guard while also providing some energy and leadership to the second unit.
