Colts news: Pat McAfee blasts Indy's 'historically awful' defense

On Sunday evening, the Indianapolis Colts dropped to 0-2 on the young 2026 NFL season with a tough overtime road loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in primetime. The Colts battled valiantly in this one, getting the game to the extra period, but unfortunately, they came up short when they got there thanks to a game-winning field goal from Kansas City.

The Colts surrendered a huge game to Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes , who threw for nearly 400 yards on the evening, albeit with an overtime period to boost those numbers, and now, former Colts player Pat McAfee has blasted the team for its porous defense so far this year.

"The defense is historically awful. Over 1,000 yards of offense has been run against our defense in two weeks. That's a record. You know who was first before that? The Seahawks in 1976," said McAfee, citing a report from Evan Sidery, per his account on X, formerly Twitter.

Last week, the Colts were torched all afternoon by Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens at home to open up their season at 0-1, and they didn't fare much better against Kansas City, allowing Travis Kelce to turn back the clock for over 100 yards.

Many questioned head coach Shane Steichen's decision to go for a game-tying field goal late in overtime and give the ball back to Mahomes and company as opposed to just trying to win the game, but as the saying goes, hindsight is 20/20.

Things won't get any easier from here for the Colts, as the team is now set to host a Houston Texans team looking for its first win of the season. That game is set for September 27 at 1:00 pm ET from Indianapolis.
