Women's TGL golf explained - how does WTGL work? Format, teams, schedule, scoring and how to watch live on Sky Sports

The WTGL follows on from the success of the Tomorrow's Golf League (TGL), founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's TMRW Sports, in partnership with the PGA Tour.

The women's edition of the tech-infused golf league will see LPGA Tour stars feature in a unique team format, with five teams (representing five different cities) of five-player rosters confirmed for the inaugural season.

The season-long competition takes place across November and December at the SoFi Center in Florida, a purpose-built indoor venue, with every shot live and all the players mic'd up for the made-for-TV format.

Both the 2026 and 2027 editions of WTGL will be broadcast exclusively on Sky Sports as part of an expansion of its golf rights, which also includes a further two years of TGL presented by SoFi.

Every match will be exclusively live on Sky Sports Golf , Sky Sports+ or Sky Sports Mix , while repeats will be available the following day on Sky Sports Golf . You can also download the Sky Sports App for news, highlights, scores and reports.

Around 1,500 spectators will be able to fit around TGL's field of play - which is nearly 100 yards long and 50 yards wide, with matches a hybrid of virtual and real-time golf.

Specially created holes start in the virtual world, with players hitting into a giant 64 x 53ft simulator that is powered by Full Swing, although shots are played from areas with real grass, fairway, rough and sand.

Shots from inside 50 yards are from a custom-built short game area inside the SoFi Center, with the 'GreenZone' having a 41-yard turntable that can rotate the green and change angles of the shots required.

Teams play 15 holes of golf each match, divided into two sessions, with nine holes of triples - three against three playing alternate shot - and six holes of head-to-head singles golf.

In the singles format, each of the three players involved in a team play two matches each. Each hole in both sessions is worth one point and the team with the fewest shots on a hole wins the point.

The use of 'The Hammer' increases the value of a hole by one, with each team having three a match to use. If the team throws the Hammer mid-hole and the opposition rejects it, the hole is automatically conceded. The maximum a hole can be worth is three points if both teams throw a Hammer on the same hole and each is accepted.

A shot clock limits teams to 40 seconds to play a shot, while each team has a limited number of timeouts they can use in each match. If tied after 15 holes, overtime is a three-vs-three closest-to-the-pin competition to decide a winner.

All five of the WTGL teams also feature in TGL, which begins its third season on December 27 and is also live on Sky Sports .

The inaugural season features 10 regular-season matches and each team playing the others in a round-robin format, with the top four then progressing to the semi-finals.

The WTGL standings, like the men's equivalent, use a points-based system that includes two points for a match win and one point for a loss in overtime.

A four-day post-season sees semi-finals played across successive days on December 20 and 21, before the best-of-three finals start a day later to decide the first WTGL champion.
