Tiger Woods' license suspended for five years after guilty plea in Florida wreck

Tiger Woods has pleaded guilty to a charge of reckless driving in connection with a March wreck in Jupiter, Florida. As a result, his driver's license will be suspended for five years.

In March, Woods was traveling at a high rate of speed on a two-lane road in Jupiter, Florida, around 2 p.m. when he clipped the trailer of a yard maintenance truck. Woods' vehicle rolled over, though he was able to climb out of it without injury. An officer at the scene indicated that Woods "did exemplify signs of impairment."

Officers described Woods as "lethargic" on the scene and administered roadside tests. He was arrested and transported to the Martin County jail, where he refused a urinalysis test. A breathalyzer test returned a 0.00 rating for alcohol in Woods' system. He was held in the Martin County jail until approximately 11 p.m. that evening.

Woods initially entered a plea of not guilty to the charge of driving under the influence.

That was a question posed to Thomas Bakkedahl, Florida state attorney general of the 19th district, where Woods was charged. Here is Bakkedahl's answer:

It's been a long, painful fall from grace for the 15-time major champion. The March wreck was Woods' fourth significant traffic incident since the 2009 wreck that spilled his private life into public view.

In 2021, Woods was traveling at a high rate of speed in California, left the road and wrecked, suffering significant injuries that have dogged him to this day. Woods has played only sparingly in the 2020s, and not at all since the March wreck.

Woods last played professional golf just days before the wreck as part of his TGL simulator-golf team. That outing marked Woods' first competitive golf since the 2024 Open Championship; he ruptured his Achilles in March 2025 and underwent back surgery in October of that year.
