Jon Rahm will not return to LIV Golf in 2027, lawyer says
Jon Rahm will not join the new version of LIV Golf after his lawyer deemed the proposed terms unacceptable.
Jon Rahm will not be a part of LIV Golf in 2027.
Rahm's lawyer, John Beck, who spoke on his client's behalf in a LIV bankruptcy hearing Wednesday, said his client "independently reviewed the proposed terms of LIV 2.0 … and has determined that those terms are unacceptable to him, and he will not be participating going forward."
The Athletic was first to report the news.
LIV Golf filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy last month , and Rahm was its largest creditor . Beck said Rahm and LIV were working on a separation agreement and hoped to have it completed by Oct. 15.
Just this week, BC Partners, who is working with LIV to bring to life the next version of the league, extended the deadline for players to commit to LIV 2.0 until Oct. 25. Also among the terms was a $300 million total investment, a shortened schedule with smaller purses and an offering to players of 52.5 percent equity share.
However, Rahm, who has won the past three individual titles and has been LIV's best player, won't be a part of the league moving forward.
Fellow Spaniard Sergio Garcia was also working to be released from his contract, and other players like Cam Smith and Joaquin Niemann have questioned whether they will be a part of the league moving forward, as well.
Earlier this week, Rahm withdrew from the DP World Tour's Spanish Open for the birth of his fourth child.
