Surat: A 56-year-old brain-dead woman from Olpad became an organ donor after her family decided to donate her organs, providing a new lease of life to three patients in Ahmedabad and two recipients in Surat. The organs were donated after Olpad MLA Mukesh Patel convinced the woman’s family, being a relative of the woman.Manjulaben Kantibhai Patel, a resident of Naghoi village in Olpad, was returning home with her husband, Kantibhai, on a two-wheeler from Kavas village on Oct 1 when an unidentified vehicle hit their two-wheeler near Bhesan Chowkdi. A passerby rushed the couple to Shree Hospital in his car. After initial treatment, Manjulaben was shifted to Lifeline Multispeciality Hospital. A CT scan revealed a brain haemorrhage. Doctors performed surgery to remove a clot from her brain. However, she was declared brain dead on Oct 3 by doctors.Olpad MLA Mukesh Patel said, “As Manjulaben was my maternal aunt, I had spoken to her husband Kantibhai, who is my maternal uncle, about the new life donating her organs would provide to people. I had also spoken to her son and daughter, who were convinced by this noble cause. After this, I called ‘Donate Life’ organisation which helps in organ donation.”After all the formalities, it was decided that two kidneys, a liver and two eyes would be donated. The donated liver and both kidneys were allocated to the Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC) in Ahmedabad, where they will be transplanted into three patients awaiting organs. The corneas were accepted by Lok Drashti Eye Bank in Surat, which would provide sight to two persons.Kantibhai Patel said, “My wife was brain-dead and her organs would have eventually been cremated. Her donated organs would help in giving a new lease of life to patients suffering from organ failure.”To ensure the liver and kidneys reached Ahmedabad within the required time, Surat city police created a green corridor for their road transportation. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Surat | Silver Rate in Surat | Bank Holidays in Surat | Public Holidays in Surat | Surat AQI | Weather in Surat | Petrol Price in Surat | Diesel Price in Surat | CNG Price in Surat | LPG Price in SuratStay updated with the latest Surat news.
