State champions, record scorer join Abington High sports hall of fame

Abington High School will induct five honorees into its athletic hall of fame during a ceremony at 1 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 22, at the Abington Middle/High School Auditorium.

Tickets for the ceremony and reception cost $25, according to a community announcement. Tickets can be purchased through the athletic director's office before Nov. 11. The reception is scheduled from 3-6 p.m. at the Abington Ale House and includes hors d'oeuvres, while beverages will be available through a cash bar.

The newest class recognizes two championship football teams, a state champion golfer, a record-setting basketball player and a longtime supporter of Green Wave athletics who helped preserve the history of sports at the school.

Honorees for Abington hall of fame induction

The 2012 Super Bowl champion football team earned its place after completing a 13-0 season. The Green Wave captured playoff and Super Bowl victories and became the school's first undefeated football team in more than six decades.

The 2014 state champion football team also will be inducted. The Green Wave finished its championship run with a 36-6 victory against Northbridge at Gillette Stadium after a season highlighted by contributions throughout the roster.

Etienne Bourgoin, a Class of 2015 graduate, won an individual golf state championship in 2014. The accomplishment remains unique in school history. Bourgoin also helped lead Abington to its first South Shore League title before continuing his career at the collegiate level.

Kelly Snow, a member of the Class of 1993, joins the Hall of Fame after scoring 1,337 career points in girls basketball. Her total stood as Abington High School's scoring record for more than two decades, and she helped lead the program to postseason appearances throughout her varsity career.

Eileen Walls, the official historian of Abington High School sports, was selected for decades of support and involvement with Green Wave athletics. A 1971 alumna, Walls played basketball and field hockey at the school, later worked numerous athletic events and was a guest speaker during a celebration marking the 50th anniversary of Title IX.

The Abington High School Athletic Hall of Fame Nomination Committee selects former teams, athletes, coaches, administrators and community members who have contributed to the success or growth of athletic programs at the school.
