Packers tackle Zach Bako-Bewele says he plans to start against Vikings

GREEN BAY – Green Bay Packers right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele said more was made about whether he would be ready to play against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Sept. 13, than was probably necessary.

He said he plans to be in the starting lineup.

More than a week ago, Bako-Bewele said he wanted to make sure he was able to make it through an entire game before committing to starting against the Vikings .

On Sept. 9, he said he meant endurance more than the condition of his right knee, which he had repaired in January. Bako-Bewele had been practicing regularly, but in spurts, making sure he wasn't trying to do too much too fast.

When he spoke after camp had ended, the most work he had had was in the joint practice with the Arizona Cardinals . He said he got through that with some soreness afterward and wanted to see how practice went over the next week and a half.

"I think the plan was always to be ready Week 1," he said. "I had given an answer a couple of weeks ago where it sounded like I was unsure. But I think it got blown out of proportion. I was referring more to getting in shape, getting back with team, and the rhythm of playing."

Bako-Bewele was a limited participant in the Sept. 9 padded practice, but limited can mean he just sat out for a few snaps instead of taking every snap.

Whatever the case, it appears the Packers will have at least four-fifths of the offensive line available for the opener at U.S. Bank Stadium.

The only question mark is left guard Aaron Banks , who also was a limited participant. Banks wasn't available for comment on whether he planned to play.
