The Golden State Warriors are focused on avoiding a repeat of last season, and Draymond Green has made a bold promise to the fans, based on Steve Kerr's comments.
It has been less than a week or so of practice for the Golden State Warriors, and their core is fighting against Father Time this season.
Jimmy Butler, Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Al Horford aren't getting any younger, while Kristaps Porzingis can't get off the treatment table.
Having said all that, Green has seen a "different" version of the Warriors already, and it's based on what Kerr told them at the start of this season.
Draymond Green shakes off "delusion" at Golden State Warriors
The Warriors tried to strike big in the market this off-season but ended up empty-handed, leaving them in a precarious position.
Nobody is considering them as playoff locks, let alone title contenders, but experience can't be bought, and the Warriors have plenty of it.
Green is famously demanding of people around him, so it speaks volumes that he has given a glowing verdict on the mood around camp despite the noise outside.
Curry's extension has helped, but what impressed Green the most was how Kerr told them that he let them down last season and is going to change things up now.
He said [via The Draymond Green Show ]: "I've always talked about the leader Coach Kerr is. He started off the meeting like, 'I failed you all last year. I don't think I did a good enough job of having guys ready to go.'
"Boom. Boom. Boom. Then he goes, 'These are the things we are doing'. I'll tell you, the first three days of practice have been different. A lot different. I respect it.
"You can't just have the season we had last year and pick up and do the same thing again. That's delusional. No one around here is delusional. It has been an extremely competitive training camp."
Green named the likes of Al Horford, Will Richards, Graham Ike, and more as players who are all driven to make an impact to right the wrongs of last season.
If they can get their experienced core on the floor reliably, and Porzingis manages to stay fit for the big games, then the Warriors can't be completely written off.
If Green is convinced with the effort of his teammates, then something is going right behind the scenes.
