PGA Tour Champions golfer Matt Gogel has been suspended for betting on golf tournaments.

The PGA Tour announced the suspension on Wednesday, Aug. 26 in a statement posted on X .

"Gogel placed bets on PGA TOUR competition but did not bet on tournaments in which he was a participant," the Tour said. "Gogel is suspended from PGA TOUR sanctioned competition for six months."

According to the Tour, Gogel's suspension began on Sunday, Aug. 23, and it is through Feb. 22, 2027.

"Gogel has cooperated fully with the TOUR throughout the process," the statement concluded.

In his own statement, Gogel confirmed the suspension — and said he "made an honest mistake."

"I want to be clear that these wagers were not placed on regular PGA Tour events, PGA Tour Champions events or any tournament in which I participated," Gogel, 55, said in his statement . "I would never knowingly violate the integrity of the game of golf."

He added, "I made an honest mistake and I look forward to playing in 2027 on the PGA Tour Champions."

Gogel turned pro in 1994 and earned his PGA Tour card in 1999 for the 2000 season. He competed on the tour for six years.

In 2002, he collected his first and only PGA tournament win at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

His best finish at a major was in 2001, when he tied for 12th at the US Open.

After losing his tour card in 2006, Gogel transitioned to broadcasting, working for the Golf Channel and CBS Sports as a commentator.

The former University of Kansas standout joined the PGA Tour Champions shortly after he turned 50 in 2021.
