Keisean Nixon Takes Brutally Honest Shot at Packers’ Training Camp Doubts

Keisean Nixon continues to be an important piece of the Green Bay Packers ' defense and special teams, serving as a primary nickel cornerback while also handling kick-return duties. In Green Bay's 39–22 season-opening loss to the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium, Nixon made his presence felt with an active statistical performance on defense.

Following the disappointing loss to Minnesota, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur highlighted Nixon's effort, describing it as one of the most complete performances he has seen from the veteran cornerback during their five seasons together.

"I just love how he competed down in and down out," LaFleur said. "There were some tough, competitive catches made on him, but he was there in coverage in a good position. Sometimes that's just how life is in the NFL, but I thought he had one of his most complete games, I would say, in my time here."

In a recent interview, Nixon was asked whether becoming the Week 1 starter ultimately validated his belief that he would remain in the starting lineup despite all the discussion surrounding the cornerback competition during training camp .

Nixon made it clear that his place on the field when the regular season began mattered far more to him than the conversations surrounding camp.

"When week one came around, where was I? Starting," Nixon said . "That's all that matters. Camp is camp. They gotta see other people get reps and stuff like that. However they felt about me during camp is irrelevant. I told you I'd be out there week one, and that's what it was.

"A lot of things don't affect me. I still came through the same process, still getting in the building at 6:30 in the morning, stacking days. Again, I can't control how they feel or how they felt during training camp."

Nixon finished the loss in Minnesota with five tackles, including three solo tackles, along with half a sack and an interception. The interception was notable because Nixon has never recorded more than one pick in a single season.

Nixon has developed significantly since beginning his Packers tenure as a reserve who primarily handled nickel responsibilities before establishing himself as an All-Pro return specialist and eventually transitioning into an outside cornerback. After previously spending time in the slot and contributing as a kick returner, Nixon became a full-time starter on the outside last season.

In 2025, Nixon started all 17 games for Green Bay while playing 1,017 defensive snaps at outside cornerback.
