Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Nanded and Latur district administrations have prohibited the sale and transportation of green and dry fodder, grass and cattle feed outside their limits amid concerns of a fodder shortage following below-average monsoon rainfall. In Nanded, collector Rahul Kardile issued the order on Tuesday and the restrictions took effect on Wednesday. In Latur, collector and district disaster management authority chairman Dr Bharat Bastewad issued the order under the Disaster Management Act, 2005. The restrictions will remain in force in both the districts until further notice.“The administration has decided to conserve the fodder currently available in the district for local livestock in view of the prevailing situation. The restriction applies to green and dry fodder, grass and cattle feed and prohibits their sale, as well as transportation outside Nanded district,” Kardile said. The move follows the state’s drought declaration in 265 talukas under Trigger-1 for the 2026 kharif season. In Nanded, 14 of the district’s 16 talukas have been declared drought-affected, with only Mudkhed and Mukhed excluded.According to the administration, rainfall in the district remained below average this monsoon, raising concerns over reduced agricultural output and fodder production. “Anticipating a shortage in the coming months, it has been decided to conserve available fodder stocks for local livestock,” a district official said.Issued under the Maharashtra Fodder (Export Control) Order, 2001, the directive instructs authorities to immediately enforce the restriction and prevent movement of fodder beyond district limits. The administration said the order was part of preparations to mitigate the impact of drought conditions and safeguard fodder supplies for local requirements.Stay updated with the latest Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar news.
