Utah's favorite son is making his tournament debut finally. Finau, 37, is a six-time PGA Tour winner and serves as an ambassador of the Korn Ferry Tour event in Utah but he's been unable to play here the past two years. "To have a PGA Tour event in Utah and now to be participating in it on this stage for a home crowd, I'm really excited about it," he said Wednesday. Finau went to West High School in Salt Lake City and won the Utah State Amateur Championship in 2006.

Black Desert Resort opened in 2023 and quickly rocketed up several of the Golfweek's Best rankings:

The golf course plays as a par 71 and measures 7,421 yards for the pros. The property has dramatic lava rock outcroppings all over. The National Park Service reports that the latest volcanic eruption was 32,000 years ago from what is now Snow Canyon State Park, just a couple of miles north of the golf course. The site for Black Desert looks much more like something to be found in Hawaii, minus the ocean views, but with plenty of promise.
