‘Ignored at first, only males in car’: Gurgaon biker says driver repeatedly came close before crash

GURGAON: Woman biker Sia said she initially tried to ignore the car that later crashed into her on Golf Course Road, but became scared after the driver repeatedly came close to her bike and gestured for her to stop.In a fresh video statement, Sia said she had not initially noticed the car following her. She said the first indication that something was wrong came when it sped past her very closely, startling her.“I tried to ignore it at first. Then, the car slowed down and dropped back behind me,” she said.Sia claimed the car later pulled up alongside her, with the driver making gestures and trying to get her to stop. She said another man sitting next to the driver was also making gestures.“That’s when I got scared. You could clearly tell from his face that they had been drinking,” she said, adding that she could not see exactly how many people were inside because of the car’s tinted windows.Sia said she believed there were two more men in the back and added that, from what she could see, there were no women in the car.She said she signalled the driver to stay to the side and not come too close. When she sensed the vehicle veering towards her bike or trying to overtake, she accelerated slightly because she feared the driver might do something reckless.Meanwhile, a fellow rider tried to pull alongside her, she said, while another vehicle came between them, forcing her to slow down.Sia said her front-facing camera captured the car, which she claimed moved from the first lane to the third lane before hitting her. She said she fell from the bike and was left disoriented after the collision.She said another rider tried to stop the driver, but he insisted that the crash was not his fault and blamed her instead. According to Sia, the driver then jumped a red light, took a left turn and fled.‘I was shaking and couldn’t ride’Sia said the crash left both the front and rear brakes of her motorcycle broken, making it difficult to ride.The other riders helped her reach a biker’s cafe in Gurgaon, where she had been headed. One rider gave her a pillion seat, she said, while another later rode her damaged motorcycle.“I stayed for about an hour because I was absolutely terrified. I was literally shaking and couldn't ride my bike at all,” she said.Sia said she eventually rode another rider’s motorcycle before switching back to her own and taking it home.She also said a fellow biker who knew her from previous group rides had his camera running during the incident and recorded what happened.The crash video went viral on Monday.
