Trump planning visit to Ireland for tournament at his golf course

President Trump plans to head to Ireland next month to attend the Irish Open at his golf course in Doonbeg.

Trump will be in Ireland on Sept. 12 and 13, the final two days of the tournament, a White House official told The Hill. The New York Post was first to report on the president’s upcoming trip.

Before attending the tournament, the president will join an event with U.S. Embassy workers and business officials, according to the White House official.

He will then attend the Irish Open, which will take place at Trump International Golf Links Ireland, located in County Clare on Ireland’s Atlantic coast. Trump purchased the property in 2014, before mounting his initial bid for president.

The president said in March he was going to “try” to attend the tournament.

“It would be an honor, but it was a great honor to be chosen. They only chose the best courses in the world for the … big opens. That’s one of the big ones, the Irish Open,” Trump said alongside Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin in the Oval Office.

Two-time defending Masters champion Rory McIlroy will defend his Irish Open title at the tournament, set for Sept. 10-13.

McIlroy attended a state dinner honoring King Charles III at the White House in May, during which Trump saluted the golfer’s second consecutive Masters victory .

The president, an avid golfer, has attended multiple golf tournaments during his second term — including those at courses his company owns.

In May, he attended the final round of the PGA Tour’s Cadillac Championship at his Doral, Fla., resort. The LIV Golf league , meanwhile, held two of its 12 events this year at Trump-owned courses.

Trump also attended the second day of last September’s Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black Course in Farmingdale, N.Y.

While in office, the president has profited from the golf courses he owns. In 2025, seven of his clubs — five in the U.S. and two in Scotland — reported more than $252.5 million in revenue combined, according to Trump’s latest financial disclosure .
