Jayden Reed is facing a murky recovery after a neck injury abruptly ended his involvement in the Green Bay Packers ' 20-17 overtime win over the New York Jets . The wide receiver went down during the second offensive play and was taken away on a backboard before remaining overnight at a hospital in New York.
Reed had agreed to a three year, $50 million extension with Green Bay in April, but the team does not yet know when he will be able to return. James Palmer said on NFL on Prime that there is no established timeline for Reed, with the possibility of a season ending absence still on the table as the Packers proceed with maximum caution.
The 26-year-old's potential absence for the remainder of the season would be a major setback for the Green Bay Packers offense. Adam Schefter later confirmed on X that Green Bay is placing Reed on injured reserve because of his neck injury, leaving him sidelined indefinitely.
Jayden Reed on his injury with the Packers
Despite the difficult circumstances, the Packers star offered an encouraging message to his followers on Instagram, writing, "God will use the unusual to do the unexpected… 11 out."
Reed's positive mindset gives the Green Bay Packers something to hold onto as the team continues dealing with a growing list of injuries. Matt LaFleur said Reed's teammates were encouraged after he regained feeling throughout his body earlier in the week, but the Packers remain committed to taking a careful approach with his recovery.
With Reed unavailable, Skyy Moore and Bo Melton are expected to take on more responsibility in the slot, adding another challenge for an offense already dealing with major problems along the offensive line. Right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele is also out for the season after suffering a patellar tendon tear, leaving Green Bay with even more uncertainty up front.
