Green Bay Packers: 3 stats from loss to Vikings that indicate positive changes on offense

Let's face it: the Green Bay Packers are still searching for answers to many of the same questions they had regarding why their season ended the way it did. As happened all too often in 2025, Green Bay held a lead through three quarters of their Week One game against the Minnesota Vikings , only to collapse late and lose in embarrassing fashion.

Hopefully, changes will be made before the season gets away from them. That being said, there were some developments from the loss that would seem to indicate that they are open to making some significant changes.

For months, Packers fans have been calling on Matt LaFleur to let Jordan Love loose on opposing defense. Unfortunately, he was under constant pressure against Minnesota , which led to a couple of turnovers.

Those aside, though, Love had a fairly respectable game. He completed 21 of his 42 passes for a career-high 387 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.

With Josh Jacobs on the commissioner's exempt list and the offensive line apparently incapable of opening running lanes for the other running backs, it stands to reason that Love will continue to have high passing attempt totals, which will lead to much more eye-popping numbers.

Christian Watson led the Packers with six receptions for 147 yards and two touchdowns. He was far from the only productive pass catcher, though. After not having a big role in the offense as a rookie a year ago, Matthew Golden received more targets than any other Green Bay receiver.

While Watson had eight targets, Golden had 12 of them. He caught six for 95 yards in what was easily his best regular season game so far.

Notably, too, four Packers pass catchers had six or more targets. It seems that, after letting Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks go this offseason, less is more for the best playmakers on the team.

Do the Green Bay Packers actually have good special teams?

One of the most notable hires Green Bay made this offseason was special teams coordinator Cam Achord. After Rich Bisaccia failed to turn the special teams unit around, he unexpectedly resigned to take a job at Clemson.

The results in Week One were better than Packers fans could have imagined. After years of being ranked as one of the worse special teams units in the NFL, Bo Melton and Kaleb Johnson combined for 176 kick return yards.

Additionally, rookie kicker Trey Smack made all three of his field goal attempts, including a 59-yard bomb on his first career attempt. He did miss an extra point, but that was an otherwise unimportant blip on the radar.
