Indiana's search for a second consecutive national championship begins on Saturday. The team's biggest question heading into the season is how they replace Heisman winner and No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza at quarterback. The team brought in TCU transfer Josh Hoover to run the offense in 2026, but he'll have big shoes to fill. The defending champions start the season ranked at No. 6 in the AP poll.

UNT has questions about quarterback succession as well. Last season, Drew Mestemaker came out of nowhere to lead the Mean Green right to the brink of playoff contention, but a loss to Tulane in the American Conference Championship Game ended those hopes. Mestemaker is now off to Oklahoma State, as is last year's head coach, Eric Morris. North Texas turns to former West Virginia head coach Neal Brown this season, with Tayven Jackson – who previously played at Indiana from 2023 to 2024 – taking over as the starting quarterback.
