Green Bay Packers: Matt LaFleur addresses how team is handling the frustrating Josh Jacobs situation

The Green Bay Packers running back room is not going to look the way anyone thought it would in 2026. After scoring 13 touchdowns and rushing for 929 yards in a season that saw him deal with some injury, three-time Pro Bowler Josh Jacobs was supposed to have a healthy year and continue to put him star numbers.

But an arrest for domestic violence against his girlfriend back in May led to two criminal charges being filed against him last week. In response, the NFL placed him on the commissioner's exempt list. This means that Jacobs will not be able to play for Green Bay for an indefinite period of time as the league contemplates how long he should be suspended.

Ever since the arrest happened back in May, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has not said much about the situation. Instead, he has stated that he and the organization are waiting to see how the legal process plays out.

To make up for the loss of Jacobs on their roster, Green Bay has made Marshawn Lloyd their starting running back. They previously re-signed Chris Brooks, ensuring that their best pass-blocking and catching running back remained on the team. Additionally, the Packers traded for Kaleb Johnson and signed Pierre Strong to their practice squad.

As for Jacobs' future with the organization, LaFleur publicly shared his support for the three-time Pro Bowler, at least for the time being.

"There have been many conversations, certainly don't know all the details, but what he tells me, I believe in him and I trust him and will do so until I'm proven otherwise," LaFleur told the media on Tuesday.

Based on the head coach's comments, it is clear that he believes Jacobs' version of events. However, the organization has also not seen (or at least they claim to not have seen) the video court documents state law enforcement has that led to criminal charges being field.
